Testimonials

Obviously it’s good to know we’re doing a good job at Capital…and here’s a few comments from our past students which gives all of us encouragement and a great deal of satisfaction.

Hi there Spencer,
Can I take this opportunity to wish you and your family a merry Xmas and Happy New year and also thank you for keeping me busy with students. I must say they always seem to be very happy at Capital , your name is often mentioned in a good way . As a land lady who was herself a foreign student back in 1976 ,I am able to compare notes and do appreciate the family spirit of Capital school!
Sadly had to say good by to my last 2 girls, Nadia and Nabila. Nabila really flourished here, she fell in love with England and was determined to improve her English. I have already received many emails as she is hoping to return at some point.

Looking forward to a busy 2010.

Kind regards,

Catrine - Marion's friend

Subject: Mission accomplished!

Importance: High

Dear Spencer, Mark & Sarah,

how are you doing? I hope everything's fine!

I'm writing to tell you that yesterday I received the IELTS result and have got that 6.5 I longed for so much!

More exactly I've received 6.5 for listening, the part I was most scared of in the last period, 6.5 for reading, and that's an incredible upshot, reckoning I had only 4 last December...but I was quite confident to do well after all that training!

Besides I've got 5.5 for writing, so I've lost half point from last time. Maybe it was because of my bad handwriting, but it's a pity because I thought it wasn't that bad and was nearly confident to achieve something better, therefore I'm a little disappointed about it.

And, last but not least, a very good 7.0 for speaking.

I'm very happy for all my experience with you and not only because now I've got this 6.5! Sometimes I miss that time, all that adrenaline and, believe me or not, even those hurry days!

And to be honest it's not a problem to have had 5.5 instead of 6.0 or even more for writing, I wish to think it as a starting point to still improve my English rather than an arrival point!

Thank you very much indeed for all your helps and liking, I will really remember you and those six weeks as something precious and unforgettable.

At the end of this email I'd like to express a special thank to Sarah for all what she taught and suggested me as well as to have put up with me for so long! Your lessons were absolutely great!

I wish you all the best!

Bournemouth08, students’ feedback
Summary

Accommodation and Families: On the whole students thought families were very well chosen and prepared for their task
of hosting foreign students.
Capital School Staff: Let me quote: “Spencer was absolutely fantastic. He did everything for us!”
Stuart and Junior were very well liked as they knew what teenagers are interested in and
they were great to talk to. So even on excursions the students had a chance to talk to
native speakers.
Staff at reception, accommodation service etc.: Everything worked perfectly. Everybody
was helpful and considerate when needed.
Coursework: Teachers were “cool, friendly, relaxed, interesting to listen to, motivating …

Students loved to learn about British traditions, culture and history. Of course, some would
have liked to know more about, say, English cooking or youth problems, but on the whole
the programme was appreciated.
In the survey I made most students said that their oral fluency had “improved” or even
“considerably improved”. Another positive effect of the teaching was that
most students felt that their vocabulary had enlarged (considerably) during the stay. The
vast majority also feel “much more confident” in using their English.
Taste of Britain: THEY LOVED IT!!

To sum up: It was a very successful stay at Capital School and ALL the students would
recommend the school to their best friends without hesitation!

Greetings, hugs and lots of kisses (sorry just for the girls) from the crazy Swiss clown with his colourful clothes…

25 September 2009

Language stay of class 4Ma at Capital School of English, Bournemouth, 13-26 September 2009.

Dear Spencer

Thank you very much for organising this year’s two-week stay for us. Here my “on-the-spot” report:

All my students were happy with their lodgings and with the reception at their host families. I did not have a single complaint throughout the two weeks of our stay.

The courses, taught in two groups of 8 students, had a clear focus on improving the students’ fluency in English, as well as getting to know (every-day) English culture and English history.
During the two weeks I visited the classes on 4 different mornings, and I saw a variety of activities being done in the classroom, including role play, listening and reading comprehension exercises using different sources (print, film), text writing (different text types, fiction and non-fiction). Throughout my visits I felt that the teachers usually managed to motivate the students to participate and to make their individual contributions. Judging on the last day of our stay, I can say that above all the weaker students’ fluency has improved, some considerably.
The areas covered in the course included British education, politics, crime, but also literature and history. Students willing to learn could profit a lot.

Capital school also organised our social programme as well as the transfers from and to Gatwick airport. All aspects of the organisation were just perfect. There was the necessary amount of flexibility and last-minute arrangements worked out. Both Caz Yorke, the social organiser, and the coach drivers/guides have always been competent, friendly and helpful to the students.

All in all, we have spent two interesting and rewarding weeks at Capital School – socially as well as academically.

Thank you very much.

Best Wishes

Jurg
